Banking Circle Elected To AP+ Management Committee

SYDNEY, 20 January 2026 – Banking Circle (Australia) has been elected as a member of the Australia Payments Plus (AP+) Management Committee for 2026, represented by Ying Zhuo, Head of Product APAC.

The AP+ Management Committee plays a vital role in shaping the strategy, performance, and direction of AP+ schemes, including eftpos, the NPP and BPAY. It monitors market trends, approves amendments to scheme documentation, and makes recommendations on key areas, including the AP+ Product Roadmap, market and policy trends, industry insights, and fraud prevention.

The election demonstrates Banking Circle’s growing importance within the Australian payments landscape, accelerated by its acquisition of Australian Settlements Limited (ASL), an Authorised Deposit-taking Institution in Australia (ADI) with an extensive track record of domestic banking, payments, and settlements.

An industry veteran, Ying has previously held Product roles at the likes of ANZ Bank, Tencent, and was the first employee of Airwallex in Singapore, before making the shift to Banking Circle in 2023.

Commenting on the nomination, Ying Zhuo, Head of Product APAC, Banking Circle, said, “Our vision is to represent the banking and payment needs of fintechs –both domestic innovators and international firms seeking to enter or expand beyond Australia’s borders. By advancing Australia’s payment ecosystem and accelerating the adoption of NPP, we aim to position Australia on the global stage and enable seamless growth for fintechs everywhere.”

Banking Circle brings global experience operating within similarly regulated landscapes, holding memberships to various banking and payment associations and committees. The firm also brings industry knowledge from various instant schemes as direct members and early adopters.

“While payment trends differ from region to region, we’ve seen the impact that committees such as this can have on improving domestic payment outcomes, specifically in relation to accelerating access to instant payments. We’re excited to join the AP+ Management Committee for this very reason”, said Zhuo.

The 2026 Management Committee will include representatives from the following organisations (in alphabetical order): Adyen, ANZ, Banking Circle (Australia), Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, CBA, Cuscal, Eftex, ING Bank, Macquarie, NAB, RBA Banking, Tyro, Westpac, Worldpay, and Zepto.

13 JANUARY 2026 – Banking Circle today announced that it has established a branch in the Czech Republic, strengthening its offering in Europe and building on the company’s mission to develop a local clearing network for all major currencies.

With a branch, Banking Circle will be able to provide local Czech koruna (CZK) payment capabilities for customers around the world, helping to support global customers in accessing this dynamic market. In the Czech Republic, Banking Circle will focus on serving banks, payment service providers (PSPs), and fintechs.

Expanding to the Czech Republic is an important step for Banking Circle as it continues to expand its presence and capabilities in Europe. Banking Circle is also opening a branch in Poland and has plans to grow further in the region, highlighting its strategic focus on building out local currency capabilities.

The news also follows Banking Circle joining the Czech Fintech Association, an industry group designed to support innovation in financial services to make the Czech Republic a world leader in fintech. Banking Circle is already helping Czech-based Fidoo grow from a local fintech to an SME bank in Europe.

The Czech Republic represents a highly innovative market in the global payments ecosystem. Instant payments are rapidly increasing in popularity among Czech businesses and individuals, with the Czech National Bank processing 27% more transactions in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024 and covering 99% of the market[1]. The CNB also purchased Bitcoin and other digital assets for the first time in its history in 2025, investing USD 1 million to create a test portfolio of digital assets based on blockchain[2].

Banking Circle has operated on a cross-border basis in the Czech Republic since 1st December 2019. The Czech branch received authorisation on 1st December 2025 and is expected to commence operations, including direct CZK payment capabilities, local bank accounts and multi-currency virtual IBAN solutions, later this year.

Mikkel Grønlykke, President at Banking Circle, commented: “This latest achievement represents an important milestone in Banking Circle’s global growth journey. As we continue to build a clearing network for all major currencies, establishing a presence in such an innovative European market strengthens our ability to support financial institutions worldwide. The Czech Republic is rapidly becoming a hub for digital financial services, making it a natural next step in our ambition to deliver local payment capabilities on a global scale. Our steady expansion in Europe places Banking Circle in a strong position as it approaches the crucial next stages in its growth.”

Tomáš Novotný, General Manager at Banking Circle, commented: “Opening a branch in the Czech Republic is a significant moment for our European strategy and for the customers around the world that we support in this market. From banks and PSPs to fast-growing fintechs, organisations globally are seeking partners who can deliver reliable, native payment capabilities. Our new branch will allow us to bring precisely that, helping businesses integrate more seamlessly into the local ecosystem. We’re proud to invest in a market that is rapidly emerging as a leader in digital finance, and we look forward to deepening our partnerships and contributing to the Czech Republic’s dynamic fintech landscape.”

SYDNEY, 4th August 2025

Banking Circle S.A. (Banking Circle), the next-generation technology-led payments bank, has completed the acquisition of Australian Settlements Limited (ASL), which is a licenced as an Authorised Deposit Taking Institution in Australia (ADI). The agreement to acquire ASL was signed in December 2024, subject to certain closing conditions including regulatory approvals.

A significant milestone in the evolution of payments in Australia, this strategic acquisition unites ASL’s established ADI licence and deep domestic banking, payments and settlement experience with Banking Circle’s world-class cross-border payments and infrastructure capabilities. The newly integrated entity forms a powerful, end-to-end payments platform serving the needs of Australian and global financial institutions, cementing Banking Circle’s commitment to advancing the Australian financial ecosystem through the development and delivery of faster, more efficient, and more accessible real-time payment solutions.

“Bringing ASL into our global platform establishes an expanded presence for Banking Circle in Australia, one of our most strategically important markets,” said Laust Bertelsen, CEO of Banking Circle. “ASL has been a trusted partner to local financial institutions for decades. Together, we will empower banks, fintechs, and payment providers in Australia to offer faster, cheaper, and more secure payment solutions – at home and abroad.”

Key Benefits of the Acquisition:

  • Enhanced Real-Time Payments Capability: The acquisition of ASL will enable Australian domestic and global financial institutions to access all domestic payment schemes including NPP, BECS, PayID, PayTo, and BPAY, while unlocking cross-border capabilities for the Australian financial institutions through Banking Circle’s multi-currency accounts, FX services, and global clearing network.
  • Next-Generation Payments Infrastructure: The acquisition of ASL will deliver scalable, resilient, and future-ready payments infrastructure tailored for financial institutions in Australia.
  • Expanded Regulatory and Compliance Coverage: ASL’s deep understanding of the Australian regulatory landscape ensures robust compliance, while Banking Circle’s global experience introduces best-in-class risk and fraud management practices.
  • Empowering Financial Innovation: With local presence and global connectivity, Banking Circle will support the growth of Australia’s fintech and banking sectors by offering more agile, transparent, and cost-effective settlement services.

“We’re seeing strong demand from both Australian financial institutions looking to partner with a specialist payments bank to process their domestic and global payments; as well as Australian companies looking to scale globally for a payments bank overseas,” said Mishal Ruparel, CCO of Banking Circle. “This strategic combination means our clients will gain access to all domestic Australian payment schemes as well as the global currencies Banking Circle offers.”

Mark Tibbles, CEO of ASL, added “We are thrilled to join Banking Circle and scale our operations to deliver a leading proposition to Australian banks, payment providers, fintechs and corporates looking for full domestic capability with true global reach. Together, we bring end to end knowledge and expertise to support all aspects of our clients’ payment needs.  ASL has a deep history of supporting Australia’s mutual banks, credit unions and emerging digital banks and we’re excited to grow further in these segments.”

Banking Circle established its Australian presence in 2023, operating through BC Payments Australia, which holds an Australian Financial Services License. Following its launch in Australia, BC Payments quickly realised the demand for its payment solutions and formed an alliance  with ASL to provide access to local payment services. The teams are now working closely to integrate all capabilities, creating a unified and streamlined service point in Australia for all clients.

“With Australian banks and fintechs navigating a rapidly evolving payments landscape, the demand for resilient and scalable infrastructure continues to grow,” said Piers Cracknell, General Manager of BC Payments Australia. “Banking Circle’s capabilities combined with ASL enables us to offer an unparalleled payments proposition with direct access to the Australian Dollar and all domestic clearing and settlement schemes, through one API. It is compelling for banks, fintechs and payment businesses, enabling clients to focus on growing their core businesses.”

LONDON, 1 JULY 2025

Banking Circle S.A. (‘Banking Circle’), the next-generation technology-led payments bank, has entered into a strategic partnership with PayGlocal to streamline and accelerate international payment collections for Indian businesses, including exporters and marketplace sellers.

Designed for the complexities of global trade, PayGlocal empowers Indian merchants with enterprise-grade payment capabilities and RBI-licensed trust. This strategic collaboration strengthens PayGlocal’s cross-border payment capabilities, enabling Indian merchants to collect funds from key international markets, including Europe, the UK, and Australia, by leveraging Banking Circle’s direct clearing access and award-winning virtual account solutions.

PayGlocal’s multi-currency account offering will be expanded to include Australian Dollars (AUD), further enhancing its existing local collection capabilities in US Dollars (USD), Euros (EUR), British Pounds (GBP). With access to local clearing rails, merchants benefit from faster settlements, enhanced transparency, and a seamless experience through a single API.

“Our collaboration with PayGlocal is a significant step in reducing friction for Indian exporters and enhances our presence in India,” said Mishal Ruparel, Chief Commercial Officer at Banking Circle. “By combining our local clearing network with PayGlocal’s merchant-focused platform, we’re enabling faster, cost-effective cross-border payments that support India’s growing role in global trade.”

“PayGlocal helps Indian businesses expand globally by enabling them the ability to move money quickly, compliantly, and without friction — which is critical. This tie-up with Banking Circle strengthens that foundation by combining trusted infrastructure, regulatory alignment, and a shared commitment to solving real merchant challenges at scale — without making them handle the complexities themselves,” said Rohit Sukhija, Co-founder & Chief Product Officer, PayGlocal.

This relationship is expected to deepen as both companies collaborate to meet the growing demand from Indian merchants expanding and scaling across global markets.
